
Also called humbug anemone.
Live anemones exist in many different colours, ranging from green to orange. Column light green, brown, orange, yellow, white, transparent, grey or flesh.
Column and tentacles without bright spots. Column smooth, not divisible into two regions, without projections (e.g., tubercles, suckers, verrucae or vesicles) but with vertical stripes, and does not flare towards the oral disc. Sand does not adhere to the column.
Between 130 to 370 short tentacles, with inner tentacles longer than outer tentacles.Around 20 mm in diameter.
Shoots sticky white defensive threads (i.e., acontia threads) through the body wall when disturbed. Found in the intertidal zone up to 120 meters deep. Especially abundant in rock pools and under boulders from mid-tide down. Harbours symbiotic algae in its tissues. Fed upon by the slug Anteaeolidiella indica.
