Dwarf chiton (Ischnochiton oniscus)

Colour often white but can occur in a wide variety of patterns and colours. Valves textured with fine pits, which are often arranged in rows, but lacking radiating ridges. Girdle narrow, covered in tiny scales that appear smooth to the naked eye, but reveal fine ribs under microscopic examination.

Usually about 10 mm.

The smallest southern African chiton. Generally occurs in small groups on the undersides of rocks in sandy pools.
