Carapace black, usually speckled with green. Sides obviously convex. The posterior part of the carapace has about eight fine grooves that run outwards to the edge. Legs red-brown and yellow. Nippers dark red. ‘Hand’ weakly ridged.
About 50 mm.
Abundant in Natal and southern Moçambique. They often scurry around in groups on rocks above the water level, plucking seaweeds and picking up small animals. Males particularly gaudy when mature. Females are more drab and often a dull mottled green.
