Orange-breasted sunbird (Anthobaphes violacea)

Adult male is easily identified by its orange belly and purple breast band, as well as its elongated central tail feathers. Yellow pectoral tufts only visible in display.
Female is olive-green above, and yellow-green bellow (not grey like the smaller female of the Southern double-collared sunbird), with a slightly pointed tail.
Juvenile is like the female, with yellow gape. Immature male has a patchy plumage.

12 – 15 cm. 7 – 13 g.

Endemic. Common resident and local nomad in fynbos and adjacent gardens.
