
A dark-backed robin-chat with a fairly short, white supercilium and pale orange throat, upper breast, vent and rump, the remainder of the underparts being pale grey.
Juvenile is browner above, with buff spotting, dull buffy-brown underparts and mottled darker brown shade on the breast. Immature retrains some buff-fringed wing coverts.
17 cm. 23 – 38 g.
Often mimics other bird calls. Common resident and altitudinal migrant, found in a wide range of habitats including forest edge, thickets, bracken, heath and scrub, or in gardens, often becoming very confiding. Confined to higher elevations in the North, but common down to sea level in South Africa.
